John is an acknowledged expert in banking and finance law. John advises a wide range of domestic, EU/EEA and international financial institutions (including banks and private equity houses) on transactional and regulatory issues. On the transaction side, John has acted for lenders and borrowers in bilateral deals and on funds-based real-estate and receivables financings. John also advises on security and contractual issues in the prime brokerage market. John is a leading member of the firm's financial services regulatory practice and advises financial institutions on a range of matters including anti-money laundering/counter terrorist finance compliance, conduct of business liability, payment services and passporting issues. He has also acted in a number of mergers and acquisitions transactions in the financial services sector, including in the insurance and re-insurance field, and has acted in a number of bank transfer schemes.
John is the author of the leading Irish text on Banking Law and regularly contributes to international legal publications and conferences.
John joined Maples and Calder in 2013. He has practised as a banking lawyer for many years in leading firms in London and Dublin, before becoming a Senior Counsel in 2011.
