James has experience across a broad spectrum of legal issues affecting the investment funds industry. He specialises in private equity and hedge fund formation and represents a diverse client base. He also works extensively with private equity and hedge fund managers, and their onshore counsel, advising on structuring, ongoing maintenance and transactional issues, as well as advising fund service providers and investors. James is also a regular speaker at various industry events.
James joined Maples and Calder in 2010 and was elected as a partner in 2014. James gained significant onshore experience as a senior associate in the Investment Funds team of the Hong Kong office of Sidley Austin where he worked extensively with corporate, partnership and LLC vehicles. Before that he was a senior associate with Gilbert + Tobin in Sydney. James has been recommended for consecutive years in IFLR1000, Chambers Asia-Pacific, Legal 500 and also in respect of Private Funds in Who's Who Legal.
