Join a team of leading practitioners

Maples has some of the profession's leading practitioners working across our global network. The work, our clients, our culture, the opportunity to work in international practices around the world, and of course the benefits are all reasons why we attract the best lawyers.

The work is highly engaging because we constantly challenge ourselves to find innovative way of doing things. We pride ourselves on our entrepreneurial approach to meeting client briefs.

What kind of work do we do?

As a leading international firm, we are instructed by numerous multinational businesses across broad practice areas. Whatever the brief, we recognise that what sets us apart is our ability to deliver clear, commercial and sound legal advice.

We regularly work with other international law firms, based in major financial centres including London, New York, Dublin, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Dubai, that are lead Counsel on transactions with a BVI or Cayman focus. We also have a thriving Irish practice that provides top quality legal services across a broad scope of practice areas, under Irish law, and a practice in both Luxembourg and Jersey.

The work our lawyers do is often international, with many briefs involving complex, high value cross-border transactions. We continue to break new ground in the creation of new legal frameworks for our clients and are regularly recognised in industry awards (see News & Expertise).

A feature of the way we practice is that at all levels, our lawyers will take full responsibility for their work and enjoy direct contact with the clients they work for. We believe in recruiting the best lawyers. In return we provide you with the stage to showcase your ability, irrespective of your level of experience.

We are very proud of the culture that pervades across our offices. Collectively we have worked hard to ensure that the professional and friendly working environment has endured as we have grown.

What can you expect?

We are very proud of the culture that pervades all our offices. Collectively we have worked hard to ensure that the professional and yet friendly working environment has endured as we have grown.

Rather than one single ingredient, we think there are a number of reasons why Maples is such great environment to work in:

  • Our recruitment policy is designed to identify not only the best technical lawyers and professional support staff, but also well-rounded people who like to make a contribution from day one. Good work is a pre-requisite to working at Maples; working together with colleagues is also an essential part of the brief.
  • Teamwork and communication are two of our core values. Not only do our clients benefit from this but our lawyers in turn prefer it. They know there is always someone to turn to if help is needed. We have an open door policy in all our offices and there is always a healthy buzz of conversation going on.
  • Characteristically our lawyers take their work seriously, but not themselves.

Supporting your development

We are dedicated to supporting our lawyers at every level of their professional development. Our approach to the training and development is to be as flexible as possible, as no two individuals have precisely the same needs or the same ambitions.

If you are an expatriate lawyer working in one of our offices around the world, you will have a detailed and structured training programme to enable you to quickly become familiar with the differences between the law you have been practising and the law of the new jurisdiction.

If you join us in a local office, you will also find a clear training and development path. You will almost certainly work with overseas colleagues and may find opportunities to move between international offices.

Whilst we are in a number of locations, our information services, knowledge management and global practice groups ensure that know-how, training and precedents are shared throughout our firm. Across our global network many lawyers are practising the same law, so they are as likely to call a colleague in another country to discuss an issue as walk down the corridor.

Formal appraisals are scheduled annually, where development needs are addressed. However in practice this a much more regular process, as our lawyers are encouraged to raise any needs they have with their supervising partner as and when these arise.

We believe that we can offer you a career unlike any other. Here is what our people say in their own words.
