Spencer's practice covers a wide range of investment funds business, including formation of both open and closed ended funds and hedge and private equity funds and advice to fund service providers. He is also experienced in regulatory, finance and general corporate matters. Spencer is head of the Hong Kong investment funds and trusts teams. He also serves as a Director of MaplesFS.

Spencer joined Maples and Calder in 2001 and was made partner in 2003. He previously worked for Simmons & Simmons in London, Linklaters in London and Hong Kong as well as for Credit Suisse in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
